Adult Education Committee

The Adult Education Committee provides educational sessions for adults through venues such as Community Education programs, worksites, libraries, local garden clubs, local and regional meetings, and demonstrations at local fairs/expos and other events. We also provide classes online that individuals can sign up for, which are free to the public.

Popular Adult Education classes include:

Winter Dreaming for Summer Eating

An annual 4-week series held each winter. This is a great time to start planning your summer vegetable garden with tips and advice from Hennepin County Master Gardener Volunteers!

Vegetable Gardening Basics

Also an annual 4-week series held each winter. Are you overwhelmed with all the information online about vegetable gardening? Would you like to grow a vegetable garden but don’t know where to start? This is the class for you! Hennepin County Master Gardener Volunteers will talk through the basics, including where to put your garden, what to grow, whether to start from seeds or buy plants, when and how to fertilize, and ways to maximize your harvest.

Container Gardening classes

Classes on both edible and decorative container gardens. Growing plants in containers requires a slightly different approach than growing in the ground, but it’s a wonderful option that can make the most of your growing space. Join us for these popular classes on designing, maintaining, and growing beautiful container gardens.

Growing Connections

A series of gardening and gardening-related classes for individuals living with early-stage dementia, and for their care partners. The goals of the program include fostering a feeling of well-being among participants by helping them enjoy gardening activities, building friendships and community, and increasing community awareness of how to live well with this disease.

We hold free public classes on these and many other topics throughout the year! See our class calendar for a list of upcoming sessions.
