Thyme is a low growing perennial herb originally from the Mediterranean. This aromatic, culinary herb is a blend of earthy, slightly minty, and slightly citrusy notes. It can be peppery with a hint of floral sweetness and goes with almost all foods. It can even be a great substitute for salt! Plant thyme in a sunny spot with free-draining soil or in containers and try growing inside during the winter with support from indoor grow lights.

The Hennepin County Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale is excited to offer three varieties of this easy-going, versatile herb: English thyme, French thyme, and Lemon thyme.

English Thyme

English thyme is a staple in herb gardens. It’s a versatile choice for those who want fresh thyme for cooking.

French Thyme

French thyme, also known as summer thyme, is a sweet variant that is a must for those who enjoy authentic French cuisine.

Lemon Thyme

Lemon thyme has a hint of lemon that goes well in savory dishes as well as baked goods such as shortbread or scones.
