Our UMN Extension Master Gardener volunteers from Hennepin County had a GREAT excursion out to the Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve in East Bethel, MN. The reserve encompasses about 9 miles of prestine wilderness representing the 3 biomes in Minnesota (Northern Conifer Forest, Eastern Deciduous Forest and Tall Grass Prarie.) Research has been taking place there since 1940. Educator, Mary Spivey, and Isanti County Master Gardener, LuAnn Marotte, gave us a tour of the bog and two research areas. Imagine our surprise when our bus got stuck . . . . in sand! Luckily, a tow truck was minutes away and we were safely unstuck.
Cedar Creek Ecosystem is not open for public use, but tours can be scheduled. For more information you can visit their website.
