U of MN Extension Master Gardener Volunteer, Meleah Maynard, being interviewed by WCCO television's Jamie Yucca.

How exciting! One of the gardens from our U of MN Extension – Hennepin County Master Gardener Learning Tour will be featured on WCCO television’s Saturday morning show, sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m.! Reporter Jamie Yuccas and photographer, Garrett, came to the home of Master Gardener volunteer, Meleah Maynard. The theme of Meleah’s garden is “Lawn Be Gone” – and frankly, there isn’t a blade of grass on the site, unless you count the ornamental ones! The place has made an awesome transformation since I lived across the street 20 years ago.

Creative use of a horse tank - -growing vegetables!

I couldn’t decide which part of the place I liked better – the expansive shade garden in front of the house, or the creative vegetable garden in the back – most of which is in containers. Meleah has creatively used galvanized tanks as planters, both as vegetable beds and water gardens. She has potatoes growing in a canvas bag.

To see Meleah’s and other wonderful gardens, be sure to join us for this Saturday’s Learning Garden Tour. Tickets are on sale here until 5:00 p.m. Friday, 7/13. You can also purchase tickets the day of the event at anyone of our fantastic gardens. Gardens will be listed on our website Friday evening. We hope you’ll join us!
