Growing Connections is a free gardening program created exclusively for people living with early dementia, and for their care partners, offered by Hennepin County Master Gardeners in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. (Link to flyer here)

This unique series began in 2017, when a team of Hennepin County Master Gardeners created a series of casual gardening classes that focus on learning and having fun “in the moment.” No garden, gardening experience, or green thumb required!

This spring, Growing Connections is offering a series of five weekly classes at two locations: twice per week at the Hopkins Activity Center and once at the Eden Prairie Art Center. The sixth and final class of all three series will be a tour at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

Each week, all three classes focus on the same content, so participants can choose the series they wish to attend based upon their schedule and location preference. We do ask that participants sign up for the same day and location for the entire spring season, so they can make connections with their classmates. Each class and the tour stand alone, so participants can attend as few or as many classes as they’d like.

Hopkins Activity Center, 33 14th Avenue N., Hopkins
Dates: April 20 to June 2 (no class during Memorial Day week)
Time: 2 classes offered per week. Attend either Monday morning or Tuesday morning, 10 a.m. to noon.

Eden Prairie Art Center, 7650 Equitable Drive, Eden Prairie
Dates: April 23 to June 4 (no class during Memorial Day week)
Time: Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. to noon.

To view a description of each class, go to the Events tab and select Master Gardener-led Classes from the dropdown menu. Topics include flower-seed planting, all about bees, fairy gardens, cooking with herbs, and more!
